Agricultural Laser Cleaning Yorkshire
Rust Gone. No Chemicals. We Come to You.

Yorkshire is one of England's most productive agricultural counties, from the arable plains of the East Riding and the Vale of York to the livestock farms of the Dales and Moors. Farm machinery works hard, weathers hard and rusts hard. PrepWorks provides specialist laser cleaning for agricultural equipment across Yorkshire: rust removal, paint stripping and surface preparation for tractors, combine harvesters, cultivation equipment, trailers and farm infrastructure, without chemicals, without disassembly and without you leaving the farm.

The Agricultural Rust Problem

Farm Machinery Rust, The Real Cost

Agricultural machinery is expensive. A modern combine harvester represents an investment of £300,000 or more. A tractor fleet, cultivation equipment, grain trailers and specialist attachments can easily represent £500,000 to £1 million of capital on a medium-sized arable farm. Yet this machinery spends much of the year exposed to the worst Yorkshire weather, wet, acidic, muddy conditions that accelerate corrosion at every point where paint has been chipped by stones, scratched by crop, or worn by field work.

The conventional approach to farm machinery rust, wire brushing, angle grinding, chemical rust converters and painting over the problem, is slow, incomplete and produces poor results. Wire brushing leaves rust particles embedded in the surface. Chemical rust converters work on light surface rust but cannot penetrate deep corrosion. Painting over preparation carried out this way leads to early paint failure, continued corrosion underneath and an accelerating cycle of deterioration.

Laser cleaning changes the economics completely. The laser ablates rust, old paint, oil contamination and surface scale to bare metal at Sa 3 cleanliness, the maximum ISO grade. There is nothing left on the surface for corrosion to continue under. Paint applied over laser-cleaned metal adheres properly and lasts significantly longer than paint over wire-brushed or chemically treated surfaces. The cost of one proper laser clean and repaint is recouped many times over in reduced maintenance frequency and extended equipment life.

Because we are fully mobile, we come to your farm. There is no need to load equipment onto a low-loader and take it somewhere else. For large, valuable machinery like combines and forage harvesters, this alone represents a significant saving. We work in your machinery shed, barn or yard, completing the work around your farming schedule.

"Brought PrepWorks in to do the cab frame and front axle on a John Deere 6R we were refurbishing. The rust came off to bare metal, no grinding, no mess. Ready to paint the same afternoon. Would not go back to the old way of doing it."

Vintage & Classic Tractor Restoration

Precise rust removal from vintage Ferguson, Ford, Fordson, Massey Harris, David Brown and Nuffield tractors without abrasion damage to original castings, panels or badges. The non-abrasive laser preserves every detail of historic machinery. Sa 3 bare metal ready for period-correct paint systems.

Loader & Handling Equipment

Front loader frames, telehandler booms, pallet fork carriages, silage clamp walls, feed barriers and livestock handling equipment. Rust treatment and surface preparation to extend working life. Works in-situ around hydraulics, pivot pins and mechanical components.

When to Book

The Best Time for Farm Machinery Laser Cleaning

The ideal time to book agricultural laser cleaning is during the winter maintenance period, typically October through to February, when combines, drills and other seasonal machinery are standing in the shed awaiting servicing before the next season. This is when rust treatment and repainting delivers the most value: the machine is off the field, you have time to plan the work properly, and the treatment is complete before the next season's use begins.

For tractors in year-round use, we can work around your operations. A morning's laser cleaning can be scheduled when a tractor is due for its service, allowing rust treatment and paint preparation to be completed at the same time as routine maintenance. We work efficiently, a typical tractor rust treatment takes half a day to a full day depending on the extent of corrosion.

Yorkshire's farming calendar means we are busy through autumn with arable harvesting and drilling. We recommend booking winter maintenance work in September or October to secure your preferred date. We operate across the full county, North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire farms all within our operating area.

For restoration projects, classic tractors, heritage machinery and show condition vehicles, we can accommodate bookings year-round. Restoration projects often have longer timelines and we are happy to work with your restoration schedule, phasing the cleaning work to match paint preparation and reassembly.

FAQs

Agricultural Laser Cleaning, Questions Answered

Yes. Rust removal from farm machinery is one of the most effective applications of laser cleaning. The laser ablates rust, old paint and corrosion from tractor bodies, implement frames, combine harvesters, grain trailers and ancillary equipment without any abrasion to the underlying steel. Sa 3 surface cleanliness is achieved, leaving the metal ready for primer and paint application. No grinding, no blasting, no chemicals.
No. In most cases, laser cleaning is performed in-situ without disassembly. The laser handpiece is manoeuvred around the equipment to treat each surface. This is a significant advantage for large or complex machinery like combines, forage harvesters and self-propelled sprayers where disassembly would be time-consuming and expensive. We work around fixed components, hydraulic lines and electrical systems.
Yes. We are fully mobile and come to your farm, yard or agricultural estate anywhere in Yorkshire. You don't need to transport machinery to us. We bring all equipment and can work in your machinery shed, yard or workshop. This is particularly important for large or immobile machinery like combine harvesters and drills.
Yes. Laser cleaning is ideal for vintage and classic tractor restoration. The non-abrasive process removes rust and old paint layers precisely without affecting panel geometry, original castings or thin-section metalwork. On rare or valuable historic tractors, laser cleaning avoids the risk of abrasive blasting removing original metal or damaging surfaces that cannot be replaced.
Yes. Laser cleaning achieves Sa 3 ISO 8501 surface cleanliness, the highest grade achievable, which is ideal for paint adhesion. The cleaned surface has no contamination, no rust, no oil residue and an optimum surface profile for primer bonding. Paint applied over laser-cleaned metal consistently outperforms paint over chemically treated or wire-brushed surfaces in adhesion tests.
We cover all of Yorkshire for agricultural laser cleaning, including the arable farms of the Vale of York, East Yorkshire Wolds and Holderness Plain, the livestock farms of the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors, and the mixed farms of the Vales of Mowbray, Pickering and Cleveland.
